Artist Rebecca Ruoff

Rebecca grew up in Woodstock, New York, long considered a vital colony of the arts. She studied studio painting and art history in college, and later in London and New York City. She has travelled extensively and attributes her broad sense of aesthetic to travel and early exposure to the creative world in which she grew up. Rebecca's mother was an acclaimed artist and author and was forever creating and teaching. Rebecca was also fortunate to spend much time in the two very different worlds of her grandparents. On one side, in the rural landscape of a farm in the Catskill Mountains and on the other, the urban environment of Manhattan.

Formally trained in realism, Rebecca's work has evolved toward abstraction, exploring its complexity and range. Using bold color and form, her paintings represent the dichotomy inherent in nature, capturing both its stillness and permanence while also invoking its volatility and force. She creates a unique vision of light, form and contrast resulting in a fresh, powerful imagery that is rich in texture yet soft in feel. She wants her work to inspire emotion, and to pay homage to the beauty and ferocity of the world around us.
